Stands, Tom Holders, Harnesses & Cases Guide: Hold It Up, Carry It Safe

Reference guide · counts measured from photographed specimens · updated 2026-11-08

112 stand/case pieces in stock · 1360 in the archive. Stands: 90 in stock (841 archived). Holder posts: 3 (102 archived). Harnesses: 2 (77 archived). Cases/bags: 33 (402 archived).

Stands and carriers are the working half of vintage drums: flat-base and single-braced cymbal stands, hi-hat stands with Swiv-o-matic hex rods, snare stands with basket arms, tom holder posts and receivers (Gretsch/Slingerland rail clips, Premier RockLock posts, Ludwig 781C double holders), marching bar carriers and harness mounts, and hard-shell fibre cases that actually fit the drum. Post diameter plus receiver compatibility decides every stand and holder purchase — vintage metric and imperial posts do not interchange.

Fitment workflow: measure post diameter and receiver bore, confirm hex versus round profiles, and match case interiors to shell depth by diameter — a 12x15 case never fits a 12x16 shell. Check hi-hat clutches for stripped threads, basket arms for frozen gears, carrier bars for bends, and case latches and handles before trusting them on the road. Missing period-correct stands discount complete outfits; orphaned toms without mounts trade at a working discount.

The tables below are measured from our own stand/case pool — stands, holder posts, harnesses and fiber cases counted apart, live and from the archive, with era bands across the whole pool — so you can see exactly what the evidence rests on. When the mount decides the purchase, ask us: we check posts and receivers against the hardware in hand.

Stand/case specimens by era

Frequently asked questions

Will this stand hold my drum?

Only when post diameter, receiver bore and weight class agree: measure the post and the receiver, confirm hex versus round, and buy the stand rated for your drum. Vintage metric and imperial posts do not interchange — never force a tight post.

Rail clip or double holder — which mount?

Maker and era decide: rail clips for 50s Gretsch/Slingerland shells, double holders for late-50s Ludwig bass drums, RockLock posts for modern Premier. Match the system the drum was built for; drilling new centers is irreversible.

Will this harness fit my marching drum?

Only when the carrier bar, belly plate and shell receivers agree by maker and era — Ludwig marching bars differ from Yamaha harness carriers. Confirm the mount pattern against your shell before ordering.

How do I size a fiber case?

Shell depth by diameter plus head clearance: measure the shell with heads on and buy the case that clears it — a 12x15 case never fits a 12x16 shell. Check latches, handles and interior padding; hard-shell fibre protects only when it actually closes.
