Thread pitch is the whole fitment question for tension rods: 12-24 is the standard for most vintage American drums (Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch), 10-24 covers older and single-tension designs (Leedy, W&A, early Ludwig), and 7/32-inch appears on specialty applications. A 12-24 rod will start in a 10-24 lug and then seize — always verify pitch before forcing anything.

Length matters second: measure the old rod including the head. Bass-drum T-rods with claws are filed under bass-drum claws; single-tension thumb rods for separate-tension shells measure differently from modern double-ended rods.
