Vintage Bass Drums

Vintage kick drums are sized by diameter first: 20-inch for bop and small rooms, 22-inch the all-round standard, 24-inch and up for the big cannon sound of concert and classic rock. Depth matters too — a 14-inch deep shell from the 60s responds faster than the 18-inch power depths of later decades.

Check original spurs, intact wrap seams, and round bearing edges; replacement spurs and re-drilled mounts are the common value killers. Every bass drum below lists its exact depth by diameter so you can match it to the kit you are completing.
