Wood-hoop bass drums tension with claws and T-rods, not lugs: the claw hooks over the wooden hoop and the T-rod pulls it down. Nickel claws belong with nickel-era drums (50s and earlier), chrome with 60s and later — mixing them is the classic visual tell of a married-together drum.

Check thread pitch (usually 12-24 on American drums) and rod length against your hoop depth; long-tube single-tension claws differ from short double-ended patterns. Buy one spare — claws are the first thing lost when a kick is moved.
