George Mallette was a long-time resident of Grand Rapids, MI. He co-founded the Grand Valley American Lodge which hosted many educational Indian programs. Legend has it that he went up north into the Canadian woods and land in front of a tree that called to him. The most perfect cedar wood out of which to make a drum. That tree was carved out to make this drum using traditional Indian methods and materials. George passed away at 95 in 2012, but his music and passion lives on in this drum.
